With warm weather and clear skies, Friday was a great day for the 9th annual Hockey Champions Pro-Am Golf Tournament.

All proceeds raised during registration and raffles will benefit the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation, specifically the cancer care department.

The tournament drew in NHL stars Justin Falk from the Buffalo Sabres and Eric Fehr from the San Jose Sharks.

To spice up the auction, an Alex Ovechkin jersey was brought in, and Carey Price and Justin Falk winter classic jerseys, three of the key items which could be won.

This year they wanted to raise $7,500 which will be put towards 27 new chairs for the telehealth room, exam rooms, waiting rooms, as well as for family or friends at each chemotherapy treatment station.

"For any of you who have been in that department - hopefully not - it is a real deal there, where the comfort for these patients and these family members during such a difficult time, that we're going to try going above and beyond to put them in the best or most comfortable situation they could possibly have," Falk said.

Having played professional hockey for a while now, Falk said both he and Fehr have noticed and appreciate the support they've received from people in the community, and so they want to return the favour.

"It's always important to give back to the place that supported you," Fehr said. "Winkler has been great to me throughout my hockey career and this is just one of the things we like to do to give back every year."

Fehr said he was looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces once again.

You can never do enough to support all areas in need, Fehr said, but every year they're going to try to do their best and support different groups every year.

The total amount raised is still being calculated.
