Two members of the Altona Elks Lodge have been promoted to upper-level executive positions this weekend at the 91st Provincial Elks Conference.

Guy Mullen has taken on the role of president for the Manitoba Elks Association and Rheina Schellenberg has become the second vice-president.

Mullen and Schellenberg formerly served as first and third vice-presidents, respectively.

"Rheina is very active, both locally and also she's on a couple of national committees as a member, and she shines," Mullen said.

Mullen has also been on various local and national committees.

"Basically what I'll be doing is, foremost, listening. I plan on leading where we have some key issues that I would like to put across as ... forward planning for the Elks," Mullen said.

Number one, he said, is increasing media involvement so the public is more aware of what the Elks are doing. Number two is encouraging people to join their local Chamber office, noting that it is a helpful resource. Third on Mullen's agenda is building and improving connections between Elks members, which includes more travelling and visiting.

"I have a group of people that want to go around and visit all of the wonderful things that the Elks do right across Manitoba," for example, Lundar's All Canada Goose Shoot, he said.

Mullen will replace Guy Small of Gladstone and Schellenberg will supersede Cynthia Tutthill of Elkhorn, according to the Elks of Canada website.
