Valley Bowling Lanes, an entertainment staple in Winkler for over 40 years is moving and expanding.

The business is relocating just north of PTH 14 in Winkler.

Owner Abe Hildebrand says their vision is to create a fun, family-friendly entertainment hub. "We've seen the city grow so much, and I've struggled for the last four years to expand the place... at the end of the day we always came back to the same thing... building a new complex."

He hopes to see the new facility open next fall.

"Bowling is not slowing down," he says. "We're only coming up with new ways of entertaining people in the bowling industry. Basically we're taking a risk and hoping it will pan out."

The 30,000 sq. ft. facility would triple the space of their current space, and incorporate 18 bowling lanes, along with a full service kitchen and other entertainment options for kids. While plans are still being finalized, Hildebrand says they hope to start construction this winter. The expanded space would also create room for more corporate parties and fundraisers.

In the meantime, their current space on Main St. will be sold. The original bowling alley was built together with nearly 100 individual shareholders. "It's done well for the community," Hildebrand says. "I believe it will keep going."
