The Morden library held it's annual literacy day pajama party Tuesday night.

Volunteers read books to the 104 children sitting around in their PJ's. The purpose was to inspire the children with an interest in books.

"Reading doesn't have to be stressful," said South Central Regional Library director of library services, Cathy Ching.

"They can [choose] one book and read it over and over again. It's really exciting to see the kids get totally engrossed in the book."

One of the volunteers at the event was former director Mary Toma, who confessed she had hoped she would be asked to participate. Toma, in her own blue pajama onsie, read to the children and said later that the simple act of reading to your children forms a strong connection.

"You're involved in the story and their involved in the story. You become part of the group," she said.

Literacy is important to her because without learning to read well, children can't operate in the world.

"If they ask me again next year, I'll be back," said Toma.

Over 100 children showed up to enjoy the annual literacy pajama party at the Morden Library
