A group of 45 Amish people moved into the Vita area about 6 months ago, and say their experience has only been positive.

“We have felt very welcomed by the people in the area,” comments one Amish man, going about his daily work, “The dry summer was also perfect for building our homes and the winter hasn’t been too bad yet.”

Municipal Councillor Ed Penner, who helped integrate them into the town, feels they have already made a positive difference in the community claiming: “We see these people coming and farming how our forefathers used to farm, its quite an eye-opener. They have been nothing but an asset to our community.”

Penner notes that the Amish do what they can to support local business and even have a small business of their own: selling baked goods and eggs to people in the area.

Local resident Kim Crutchley commends their baking abilities: “I was privileged enough to have a donut and it was absolutely wonderful, tasting just like the ones my grandmother used to make”.

Crutchley says she too appreciates the new dynamic the Amish people have brought to Vita. “They are the most friendly people ever; they’ll talk with you, they’ll visit with you and it's even a good experience just to watch the horses and buggies move down the road!”

Due to the Amish people’s successful integration into the community, Penner expects that three or four more families will come and add to their numbers next spring. He indicates that the municipality will continue working alongside them, ensuring their transition is smooth and enjoyable.
