Nearly $5,000 dollars was raised before the 2018 Curtis Klassen Memorial Run/Walk wrapped up Saturday morning in Altona.

The annual event is a fund raiser for the Curtis Klassen Memorial Fund that was started 10 years ago by a group of peers from the W.C. Miller Collegiate graduating class of '93 to remember their friend who was killed in 1990.

"We wanted to raise money and then put that money back into the community," said spokesperson Eric Hildebrand. He explained the CK Memorial Fund supports three areas; sports, education and community projects.

10 year-old Hope was one of about 90 participants between the ages of 1 and 81 that participated in the 10k run or 5k walk. She trained for the event by running 2 miles every day.

"I ran with my friend Meredith and...I love running and it's fun," she said.
