The Winkler Family Resource Centre (WFRC) is gearing up for a possible move in the near future.

The growth and success of programming are leading the board to seek out a different location. Currently, WFRC runs out of Central Station, however, plans for both to grow their programs has prompted the decision by the board to make a move.

"We have very much appreciated the partnership that we've had with Central Station," said WFRC Board Chair, Tina Fehr-Kehler. "Their other programs have also grown, and they've added more of them, so the amount of time we're able to spend there are only three mornings a week."

Fehr-Kehler said that not enough time to do all the programs they could potentially do, as well as other partnerships they could grow, with Regional Connections as an example.

WFRC is looking into relocating to the former Regional Connections space on Main Street. At the end of this month, Fehr-Kehler says they will launch a capital campaign, which will essentially be to ask businesses and individuals to support a program. "That way we can pay for that space for that particular program."

Parents have also expressed their gratitude for the programming.

"None of my friends have kids yet, I feel so alone, Winkler Family Resource Centre is the only place I can come with my daughter," one participant said.

"We just moved here and I don't have any family here, I'm so miserable, thank goodness I found the Winkler Family Resource Centre," another said. "It gets me out of the house and lets my daughter socialize with other children. The centre gives me a chance to meet other parents in my new community."

Fehr-Kehler notes there are so many studies that have been done in the last decade that show that any money you put into social services you will get a return on your investment later on in life, with less mental health issues, increased overall health, and decreased crime rates.
