A Winkler-born chef is taking his gift of cooking to the stars of Hollywood during the Academy Awards weekend.

Peter Fehr of Gourmet Inspirations will be serving celebrities during the Luxury Gifting Suite on Saturday prior to Sunday's annual awards night.

"Definitely excited for the opportunity there'll be some awesome celebrities coming through that I'll be able to provide some gourmet food products," Fehr says, adding he's hoping to hear their feedback.

Fehr will be showcasing his signature 5-star Manitoba sauces for the rich and famous including his Salted Caramel Whiskey Dessert Sauce.

He notes they Gourmet Inspirations had received an invite from star Ryan Gosling's publicist. Gosling is up for Best Actor on Sunday for his role in La La Land.

If his products became a favourite of a star, the potential exposure could be huge.

"If they would tweet or instagram about it, it would definitely have a huge reach," Fehr says. "Things could explode online... I'd probably have to quickly implement some management systems to deal with that."

Fehr grew up in Winkler and studied culinary arts in Altona before starting his business, Gourmet Inspirations, in Winnipeg.

Owner/Founder Colleen Dyck of Niverville based GORP Clean Energy Bar is also headed to the Oscars.

Dyck says it is difficult for GORP to increase its awareness in the United States. She adds they just got their U.S. packaging printed and thinks this might be the perfect opportunity.

Dyck says there will be 50 companies represented at the event and only two from Manitoba.

"We're going to represent Canada as best we can and Manitoba," says Dyck, referring to GORP and Gourmet Inspirations. "We asked for our booths to be beside each other, so the Canadians can stick together."
