A home located 1 kilometre south of Winkler, just off of Highway 32, sustained significant damage following a fire early yesterday morning.

The Winkler Fire Department was called to the blaze around 5:30 A.M.

Fire Chief Richard Paetzold said upon arrival, crews could already see flames coming from the structure, and worked for a number of hours to extinguish the fire.

The homeowners were not home at the time of the blaze.

The cause is still under investigation.
