The Winkler Flyers were put to the ultimate test recently, gearing up with the Morden Fire Department for some out-of-the-box workouts.

Head Coach Steve Mullin explains they were looking for a team-building experience, as well as a chance to make a community connection in Morden.

"It was an excellent way to get out and see what other volunteers do in our community," Mullin explains.

Training with the firefighters was also a new challenge with exercises that included pulling fire hoses, climbing the aerial ladder, working with sledgehammers.

"They have a new appreciation for what firefighters have to do... the people behind it and the work they do," Mullin says.

He notes the experience may have also sparked an interest in volunteer firefighting in some members.

The Flyers are also partnering with Morden for their upcoming home games while the Winkler arena's ice plant is repaired.

The Access Event Centre in Morden will be home to the Winkler Flyers for the following games:

Friday, November 16th vs Dauphin – 8:00pm

Saturday, November 17th vs Dauphin – 2:30pm

Tuesday, November 20th vs Neepawa – 8:00pm
