It was another successful year for the Winkler MCC thrift store, posting total revenue of $890,386.

The year ending August 31, 2017 was down slightly from 2016's banner year of $911,727.

However, the organization was still able to grant back more than half a million to Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba. The aid agency works in emergency relief and social development locally and around the world.

"A lot of the emergency aid depends on where the crises are," Winkler MCC Community Assistance Centre Board Chair Garry Bueckert says, adding they're fulfilling the mission of serving Christ at home to impact the world.

"Those of us that live in this area can't necessarily go overseas, but by doing the little things we can each do, we can impact people in other places in the world."

Volunteers are the backbone of the MCC thrift store operation

The Winkler branch also donated $25,000 to local charities, including $4,600 in emergency assistance to residents in desperate need of essentials.

It's all possible thanks to the army of approximately 300 volunteers who sort, repair and display the hundreds of donated items each week.

"The store really does operate on volunteers," Bueckert says. "Together they have made it possible for us to support MCC."

In total the clothing department was the highest earner at nearly $312,000. Housewares accounted for $167,298 and hardware $101,740.

The Winkler MCC also saw $43,888 in book sales and $22,734 from the on-going silent auction
