The Winkler Police Service is cracking down on driving infractions including speeding on Main St. Sunday evenings.

Last week police handed out several tickets to drivers for offences ranging from speeding to making unneccesary noise.

On April 8, while monitoring traffic on 6th St. police observed a vehicle loudly revving its engine. Police conducted a traffic stop and issued the 18-year-old driver a ticket for making unnecessary noise, which carries a $237 fine.

The same day, police received complaints of several vehicles loudly revving their engines on a public parking lot. Police attended and issued a driver a written warning for failing to attach a front license plate, failing to install mud flaps and having illegal window tint.

On April 9, police observed observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed along Highway 428 and obtained a reading of 73 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Police conducted a traffic stop and requested the driver’s identification, to which she produced her passport and advised her driver’s licence was at home. Through further investigation police learned the 22-year-old female’s driver’s licence was suspended and she was issued a $672 ticket for driving while disqualified, a verbal warning for speeding and her vehicle was towed from the scene.

On April 12, police observed a driver using her cellphone while travelling along 1st St. and proceeded to conduct a traffic stop. Police requested the female’s driver’s licence to which she advised that she did not have it with her. Further investigation revealed the female was suspended from driving. The female’s vehicle was impounded and she was issued a ticket for driving while disqualified along with a verbal warning for using a cellphone while driving.

While in the area of Cargill Rd on Saturday, April 13, police observed a vehicle squeal its tires multiple times, causing black marks on the roadway. Police conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver of the vehicle a ticket for making unnecessary noise.

On Sunday, April 14 between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. police issued five speeding tickets to five separate drivers travelling on Main St. The speed readings obtained ranged from 70 km/h to 76 km/h in the 50 km/h zone.
