Winkler resident Reinhardt Blignaut recently appeared in a movie trailer seen by millions around the world.

Blignaut was an extra in the faith-based movie, Breakthrough, which features well-known actor Topher Grace, actress Chrissy Metz, best known for her role in the show, This Is Us, and actor Mike Colter, star of Netflix's Luke Cage among others.

"It was so cool to be on set and see how things are actually run... seeing famous people you've seen in movies before, and who are now a couple feet away from you."

The film is based on the true story of a Missouri teen who drowned and was medically dead for nearly an hour before miraculously reviving.

Blignaut plays a student at the teen's school and spent three days shooting in Winnipeg during production.

He says while it was exciting to be seen on-screen, the life of an extra is less glamorous. "The actual cast... they have people attending to them, making sure their hair looks just right, they're eating and staying warm, and all of us extras are just watching from a distance standing outside in our sweaters during a Winnipeg winter trying to look like it's warm out."

The days were long, 13-hour shifts performing the same actions repeatedly, but Blignaut says he'd be willing to answer a casting call in the future. The memory of working on Breakthrough could soon be even sweeter, as many have high hopes for both critical acclaim and a strong box office reception.

Breakthrough premieres this Easter.
