Eden Health Care Services celebrated the official opening of a play structure and pergola at Enns Courts in Winkler.

Staff say since the initial building of the two apartment structures in the early 1980s, a play area for pre-school and early years school children has been missing. Instead, parents had to travel to nearby parks and playgrounds with their children.

However, two years ago, students in the Youth In Philanthropy group at Parkland Elementary School approached Eden on how they could help the local organization and the playground project at Enns Courts was kickstarted. Together with help from Shopper's Drug Mart, Elias Trucking the project was completed this summer.

Kym Kaufmann, CEO of Eden Health Care Services, said it was exciting to see the community rally; "without their support ... this project wouldn't have been possible."

She notes the pergola and playground will be a focal point for the Enns Courts residents and the community.

"That's what we're always trying to do with each of our properties ... break down that barrier of stigmatization and bring the community into that space."
