A group of grade five and six girls from the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church Sunday School class held a bake sale Saturday. With the intent of raising money to support ‘Bikes For Pastors,’ the girls set up tables at the Winkler Co-op Food Store selling a variety of baked goods.

One of the girls, Meski, explained the intention of raising money for bikes was to allow pastors in India to reach rural areas and minister to congregations.

"We're raising money for pastors in India who have to walk back and forth. They can have a bike so they can reach people's houses faster, so they can share the gospel with other people."

Patsy Penner, the girl's teacher, said the church had connected with Children's Camps International (CCI) for a number of other projects, and this was a need that was brought up.

"We were collecting money from September to the end of December, this would be our collections project. We thought, "we have until the end of December, let’s see what we can do with this.'"

Each bike costs around $125. The amount of money the girls had raised even before the bake sale is enough for more than nine bicycles.
