The theme of Thursday's event was "Starting Over."

"I think that most of the world has recognized that if women are doing well, the rest of the world will do well also...It's important to recognize the achievements of where we've come from, and recognize and celebrate that," said Genesis House Executive Director Ang Braun on why it's vital days like this are held.

She said accomplishments can and should be celebrated by both women and men, young and old.

Braun noted it's also important for women to boost each other up, rather than tear each other down. "We know that each of us has our own battles every single day."

International Women's Day falls on March 8th. Braun notes Genesis House will host a Lunch and Learn event that day at Days Inn in Winkler. The event is open to the public with a registration cost of $35 a person.
