A program at Ecole Morden Middle School has been teaching students the importance of community and service. The 'Pay It Forward' program encourages students to perform random acts of kindness during the school year. The students have also partnered with the Morden Area Foundation (MAF) for a taco bag lunch raising money for Katie's Cottage.

Always excited to be a part of the next generation of philanthropists, MAF Chair Lynda MacLean says she loves coming to schools and helping teach students about making a difference.

"Every year I get to come into the classroom, and I get to talk to the kids about what a foundation is," MacLean says. "Most of the time, a kid in grade five, they figure what can they do in the world, nothing. What would they like to do in the world, save the world, and they still think it's out of reach. When I can come in, and explain to them what a foundation is and does, and how they band together and how they then can make that difference."

The students are in charge of this fundraiser, meeting with Giant Tiger to obtain the food, and choosing which organization they wanted to sponsor.

A $1,000 goal was set and any remaining funds needed to reach the target will be donated by MAF.

Totals have not been calculated, however, last year students raised over $700.
