The Altona Police Service enjoyed a relatively quiet 2016 Sunflower Festival, police assisted many patrons of the festival but for the first time in the past several years had no overnight guests, no assaults and charged no impaired drivers; all in all a huge success.

Although not perfect for the Legends Car Club vintage car display, police thank the motorists who decided to leave their vehicles parked at the MEC after the social and walk home. Legends Car Club adapted very well and your cars and trucks looked great amongst the classics. Thank you for not drinking and driving!

Police did receive one odd call for service early Sunday morning when a motorist called in a Black Bear sighting. Police attended to the last known location of the adult bear and followed paw prints into a corn field. Officers could hear the bear in amongst the corn.

Police contacted Manitoba Conservation Officers who have set up a bear trap. The public is asked to stay away from the trap as this will not help in the effort to catch the bear. Police will check the trap on a regular basis, should the bear manage to be caught Conservation Officers will haul the bear to a new location and release it.
Should you sight the bear please call police at 204-324-5353 or 911.
