The town of Morris is excited about the support it's received for it's local splash pad project.

The reaction comes after the town accepted a Community Places grant of $25,000 for the task.

"Our recreation department has been working on getting some local business sponsors involved in the project as well," explained Morris mayor, Gavin Van der Linde. "That is still in it's infancy but there are a number of sponsors that have been identified as well as a naming sponsor. That will help with some of the costs."

Van der Linde noted they expect construction on the splash park to begin next spring; adding they hope to complete the project by the fall of 2018.

Meanwhile, the splash pad, which will be located at the Morris pool, is more than a local community facility.

"Quite a few years ago we did we did quite a significant upgrade on the pool, so we do have a nice facility now," shared Van der Linde. "It does serve a very large area and every parent is coming in with very young kids and very often two to four kids. If they have a 10 year old they also need something to do with their one year old. Now we can accommodate them."

Van der Linde stated they felt it was important to accommodate all ages at the pool including toddlers.

The expected cost of the task is $150,000 with about $75,000 coming through various grants.
