In its Weekly Crop Report, Manitoba Agriculture says more rain in the central area would be welcome over the next few days, as the topsoil is still quite dry in many areas.

Severe thunderstorms severely impacted crops and infrastructure in western areas over the past week, with heavy rain, hail and strong winds. The most severely affected area was near Pilot Mound and Crystal City.

Most producers have been able to keep up with herbicide applications, with most cereals and canola fields having had one pass of herbicide.

The majority of cereals are growing well, while canola is just starting to germinate in some fields.

Flea beetles are a concern in canola.

Corn fields continue to advance with the warmer temperatures, while sunflowers, flax and peas are also growing well.

Soybeans range from just emerging to the first trifoliate stage, with some fields showing the second trifoliate.
