A pair of sisters originally from the Morden area, have returned home to try and get kids more involved in agriculture.

Karen Hildebrand and her sister Teresa Vallotton hosted AI (artificial intelligence) computer coding camps in the Morden/Winkler region over the weekend. Boys and girls ages 8-16 learned about topics such as image recognition, text-to-speech and chatbots.

Karen explained what they're trying to accomplish.

"Really trying to help connect that next generation of farmers and those in rural communities with artificial intelligence, ways that they can be incorporating that into a future career path...A super easy, one-day commitment to decide if that's something that kids are interested in and want to learn more about."

Hildebrand says they've hosted the workshops in the States for about a year, but this is the first time they've offered them in Manitoba.

The sisters plan on hosting another round of workshops in the area over the Father's Day weekend. They also plan to offer the program throughout the summer in Wawanesa, Brandon and Winnipeg.
