Winter wheat seeding is underway in Manitoba.

Doug Martin is chair of Winter Cereals Manitoba and farms near East Selkirk.

He says there has been some issues with seed availability.

"There seems to be more seed growers pushing the fall rye that seems to be, in our area, taking over what winter wheat growers were seeding. They seem to be going to the hybrid rye. With the rye there's contracting opportunities."

Martin notes there's plenty of moisture in the ground to help with winter cereal germination.

He adds harvest results from this past year were varied depending on rainfall amounts.
