Organizers with Altona Community Action Network are forging ahead with plans to build a timber frame pavilion at the local Community Gardens.

Spokesman Jack Heppner says local support for their project has been solid so far, raising $50,000 by the end of December. Much of that support coming from local businesses and individuals.

"We know there are some businesses that have indicated they will be helping us which we haven't counted yet, so we are quite certain that we'll be able to get started.

Heppner was asked if construction might start early this year.

"The question really relates to when do we make the call that we have enough money to do it. Do we wait until all of the money is in or when it looks like we'll to have the money. If we wail until we have all of the money in, it's possible that we could be starting by the end of March or beginning of April."

Heppner says they're now applying for grants from various agencies and organizations in an effort to reach their $143,000 goal.
