Additional charges are expected to be laid as a result of an early morning drug bust near Altona last month, the Altona Police Service announced Tuesday.

Police say the June 23rd incident, which started as a traffic stop and turned into a chase, resulted in the seizure of dangerous drugs worth an estimated street value of $36,200.00, and $4,465.00 cash. Read more: Early Morning Traffic Stop Leads To Major Drug Bust

A 35 year-old woman from Winnipeg and a 31 year-old man from Niverville were arrested and charged in incident.

Since then, police say they received information that a firearm may have been concealed in the seized vehicle. As a result, a heavily modified shot gun was found under the backseat of the vehicle after officers executed a search warrant.

Police say the increase in seized firearms and explosives continue to be a real concern.
