The Altona Police Service is investigating an armed robbery that took place late Wednesday evening at a gas station in town.

According to information released by the department, a man entered DOMO around 10:30 p.m. to use the washroom but he left after being told the facilities were closed to the public due to COVID-19. He returned shortly after with a rifle in hand, pointed the firearm at the attendant and demanded cash from the register. However, police say it appears the man got spooked and ran out of the store into an awaiting red S.U.V, fleeing north on 6th Street N.E.

The suspect is described as a white male in his twenties, approximately 5'9" large build wearing a surgical mask, grey hoodie, blue jeans and gray shoes.

The vehicle used by the suspect was possibly a Jeep.

Anyone with any information with respect to this or any other crimes is asked to call the Altona Police Service at 204-324-5353 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
