An Altona police officer has received a distinguished award.

Sergeant Dan Defer was presented with the Governor General's Police Exemplary Service Medal and 30 year Bar on Tuesday evening.

Defer began his policing career in Altona in October of 1989.

"Dan is a very hard worker who puts in countless hours expecting no compensation," said Police Chief Perry Batchelor. "The communities we police are fortunate to have an officer possessing Dan's knowledge and dedication to duty."

The Police Exemplary Service Medal was created on August 12th, 1983, and recognizes police officers who have served in an exemplary manner, characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.
