The May long weekend is upon us and Manitoba RCMP want to remind motorists to be road wise.

Sergeant Mark Hume the RCMP'S Acting Enforcement Commander with Manitoba Traffic Services.

He says police are still expecting a fair amount of traffic on Manitoba highways despite the cooler weather forecast.

He says there are a couple of trends they've seen developing that motorists would do well to guard against.

"The biggest thing we're seeing right now is very excessive speeds and we're also seeing a lot of impaired driving. We're just reminding people that there is going to be a lot traffic so they'll need to be patient in trying to get to their destination and don't drink and drive."

Meanwhile, Hume says RCMP will be out in force this weekend as part of their National Road Safety Week campaign which runs through to Monday May 24.
