The Provincial Nominee Program appears to have been successful in filling a need in Winkler.

Next month marks the 10 year anniversary of the signing of the Canada-Manitoba Immigration Agreement.

That agreement allows for the province to nominate potential immigrants with specific skills to come to Manitoba.

Bernie Thiessen is CEO of Meridian Industries.

He says in 1997 they experienced trouble attracting workers.

Thiessen says the nominee program has been a long term investment that has been a phenomenal experience.

At present Meridian employs 50 people under the program.

Yesterday about 2000 people who have come to Manitoba under the program gathered in Winkler for a celebration of their new lives in Canada.
