Funeral For:  Bill Matishuk
Funeral Date: May 25, 2024
Bill Matishuk, age 84, of Steinbach, MB., formerly of Tolstoi, MB., passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Nancy of 58 years, daughter Leanne (Bob) Panchuk, daughter-in-law Sylvia Matishuk, brother Alex Matichuk and family, and sister Anne Woytkiw and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Dmytro and Maria Matichuk, and his son, Jason Matishuk.

Dad grew up on a family farm near Tolstoi, MB. In his early years, his adventures led him to the army. There he spent a year and a half in Canada and two years in Germany. In 1963, he was honourably discharged from the army and found himself in Thompson, MB, working at the nickel mine. The next year, the mine went on strike, and dad returned home. It was then that he met Mom at Mateychuk’s Barn Dance. A year later, they were married and soon started a family. Eventually, they built a house on the family farmstead and lived there for the next 28 years.

Dad enjoyed the country life even though he continued to work in Winnipeg. He worked at Superior Cable for 35 years until he retired. In his retirement, he enjoyed the country life and took pride in his garden, flowerbeds, and lawn. Eventually, taking care of their country home became more than Dad and Mom could keep up with, so the decision was made to downsize and move to Steinbach. Dad was content living in Steinbach and enjoyed the visits from his kids. He especially enjoyed the conversations when Jason would come out, and the two of them would discuss and fix all the problems going on in the world. I guess he really missed those conversations, as not long after, Dad went to be with Jason. We can see them now, sitting together, watching over all of us, and continuing their discussions. Dad, your kindness, gentle humor, and quick smile will always be missed. Rest in peace.
