**Update 3:30 p.m.**

According to the Carman-Dufferin Fire Department's Facebook page, crews have now been called out to a third grass fire in two days. While not many details are known, the status update indicates that fire fighters are working north east of Stephenfield.

Members of the Carman-Dufferin Fire Department spent several hours Tuesday putting out grass fires in the area.

Fire Chief Ben Vanderzwaag says dry conditions this spring are causing fires to spread quickly.

"Both fires were on the west side of our municipality. Farmers were doing some burning of some excessive straw in the fields and it got away, got into the tree rows and into some bush."

He adds strong wind gusts made it quite difficult for fire fighters to contain the fires and extinguish them in a timely manner.

"The first one the fire fighters were at for about three to four hours, and the second one was probably about a good five hours."

While farmers are eager to get their fields ready for spring seeding, Vanderzwaag is pleading with them to refrain from burning at this time unless absolutely necessary.

"The Province of Manitoba has issued the provincial fire burning ban on certain parts of the province just due to the extreme dry conditions. That applies to Crown land...but is a good indication of the conditions out there."

If residue burning is a must, Vanderzwaag encourages farmers to ensure they have twenty-four hour surveillance on the fire, have the correct fire breaks in place, ensure some form of extinguishment is ready and contact the fire department to notify it of the burn taking place.
