Investigators have determined the cause of Wednesday evening's house fire in Altona.

Emergency responders were called to the scene at 37 Lynnwood Wood Bay in the town's northwest corner around 6pm, where they found the east wall and half of the home's roof on fire.

According to a local fire official, the blaze started in an exterior compost/trash bin, then quickly climbed up the outside wall of the home, and got in to the attic.

Fire fighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames while also protecting homes on either side of the burning building.

As a result of the fire, the home on the east side of the burning house sustained damage to the siding on the entire west exterior wall. The home to the west was undamaged in the incident.

No one was injured in the incident.
