CN Rail Management has met for the first time with Council for the Rural Municipality of Piney to discuss how the two entities can mend their wounded relationship.

Back in June, Piney first publicized their frustrations with the railway giant who seemed, to them, to have had a reckless disregard for municipal property and infrastructure. Upon hearing these complaints, CN committed to righting this wrong. Reeve Wayne Anderson says the corporation emphasized that fact during their recent meeting.

“They’ve promised to be more communicative and to be more proactive in getting things fixed more quickly.”

Anderson says the company’s recent appearance at a council meeting was a step in the right direction.

“Before all of this, we would just call them and they would never call us back. Nothing would ever get resolved, it just went on and on and on.”

Anderson is grateful CN wants to establish a working partnership but remains wary of how easily the corporation could fall back on old habits.

“Hopefully they will follow up with what they are promising in their words,” he says.
