A water meter replacement program will get underway this spring for customers hooked in to the Municipality of Rhineland utility.

Reeve Don Wiebe says the effort will see about 600 manual meters switched out for digital units.

"These meters are battery powered have a life span between fifteen and twenty years. They also generate a radio signal that can be read from a quarter to three-quarters of a mile away," he explained, adding these new units will help with monitoring water loss and simplify the billing process.

Council recently approved $300,000 in spending towards the replacement program.
