At approximately 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, (June 23rd) an Altona Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driving in an erratic manner.

Initially the vehicle pulled over near the intersection of Pioneer Drive and 6th Street SE. As the officer was approaching the vehicle the driver fled the traffic stop.

Police pursued the vehicle for several miles with the assistance of Winkler and Morden Police Officers.

Eventually the suspect vehicle got stuck in a ditch on Highway 421.

Police have included the GPS Heat Map as there were times when the suspects attempted to evade police by crossing through fields.

Land owners are asked to advise the Altona Police Service should they notice any damage to their fields.

There are times when crime vehicles are being pursued, the driver or the passenger may throw evidence out of the window. Although police have retraced the route from the morning of June 23rd, they ask that should anyone find any suspicious packages as in the photograph, you not touch it but rather call the Altona Police at 204-324-5353. Officers will come to remove it. Meth or Fentanyl are extremely dangerous and can cause serious injury or death if ingested.

At the scene Police arrested and charged a 35 year old female from Winnipeg and a 31 year old male from Niverville.

With the use of the Winkler Police Canine Unit a large quantity of Fentanyl, Methamphetamine as well as prescription pills were located inside the vehicle. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be $36,200.00
Police further located $4,465.00 cash in the vehicle.

Both parties are facing several charges in relation to Flight From Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. Police are anticipating more charges as the investigation continues. Both of the Accused Persons have been Remanded into Custody at the Winnipeg Remand Center.

Police are certain the drug bust from early May and this one are connected. As a result approximately $50,000.00 dollars worth of illicit drugs and nearly $17,000.00 worth of cash have been removed from our streets.
