Last month a choir conference was held in Saskatoon by the Association of Canadian Choral Communities.

A choir from Southern Manitoba made up of students from four different Manitoba schools had the chance to attend, it was made up of students from Garden Valley Collegiate, Westgate Mennonite Collegiate,  Steinbach Regional Secondary School and the Mennonite Collegiate Institute.

Choir Director for Garden Valley Collegiate, Corey Peters says this conference is called Podium and choirs from all over the world are invited to attend. These choirs come together to put on three concerts a day and students from different countries have the chance to hear other nationalities sing.

Peters says they decided to make one choir with the students from all four schools. He notes the directors did not want the students from Southern Manitoba to have to compete against each other and this was the logical solution. Both directors and students say they felt this was a fantastic experience.
