In an effort to end world hunger, many farmers gather together to harvest fields for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

The organization is a partnership of 15 Canadian churches and church-based agencies.

Just a few days ago the Gardenland Growing Project near Winkler combined a quarter section of canola for the project.

"We had 160 acres of canola seeded this spring . . . and we harvested 7,261 bushels of canola," says Marv Thiessen, coordinator for the project.

He says the funds that they raise from the harvest are matched by partners which often triples or quadruples the impact.

Thiessen has also been involved in the local harvest for roughly 15 years.

"This growing project that we have here started quite a bit earlier, but it kind of went to a dead spot. There was not enough people involved and then we got going about 20 years again, and now we've been keeping going there."

When all is said and done, he says there are too many involved people and businesses to count, but their contribution does not go unnoticed.
