Momentum is building for a grassroots effort to improve the environmental health of the Boyne River that winds through Carman.

Along with a cleaned-up waterway, members of the Boyne River Keepers hope their efforts will restore life to what they consider a vital element to Carman's downtown history through paddle clubs and other events. According to spokesperson Tracy Enns, there is an opportunity for Ryall Park, nestled up against the river in the heart of the community, to play a role.

"Where we could maybe have a regatta day with live music, activities and family fun at least one day every summer," she explained.

Meantime, Enns says it's full steam ahead for the group after PembinaValleyOnline, along with CFAM Radio 950/Country88/Eagle 93.5 posted an online video featuring the club as one of the recreation options available in Carman this summer. It is part of the Pembina Valley Tour which highlights communities across the region and their respective features and opportunities available. Enns says feedback and inquiries started to roll in after the video launched July 11th.

"Anything from can they join our paddle club, they want to be part of our committee, they want to help out with work-bees, and some have even offered monetary donations. So we are quite overwhelmed and again, really excited about the opportunities," she noted.

As well, Enns says the group plans to work with the annual Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up effort and other local organizations, like Communities in Bloom and the Dufferin Historical Society, to further its goals.
