Enrolment for the 2019/2020 school year is up for the Garden Valley School Division.

Although official numbers aren't yet in, Interim Superintendent Janice Krahn says current enrolment is up about 50 students from the projected 4,515 students.

Krahn says she would expect there to be some change as they have continuous enrolment. "I know that we've just gotten a number of new registrations so that always changes things. High school students, once they've graduated from grade 12, they can come back for 4 more credits and some register for those..."

Thanks to the on-schedule opening of the Pine Ridge Elementary School in Winkler, Krahn says the 3 other city elementary schools, J.R. Walkof, Parkland, and Winkler Elementary, which were crowded up until last school year, are now very comfortable with their student populations.

The only exception is Parkland Elementary which did experience a higher than projected enrolment for this school year.

Krahn notes the division has until October 10th to submit their final enrolment to the province for funding.
