Mennonite Collegiate Institute (MCI) students are heading back to campus in Gretna after it was determined the case of a student testing positive for COVID-19, which closed the campus to staff and students last week, was in fact negative.

Last Friday the school was informed a student had tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement shared with PembinaValleyOnline by Executive Director Harold Schlegel, it was explained, after consultation with Public Health and upon further investigation, MCI can now confirm the student actually tested negative for COVID-19.

"The school is grateful to know this student is healthy, and they have not had an active case of COVID-19 on campus," noted the statement. "Public Health affirmed the school’s COVID protocols, and response to the reported case," it continued.

In light of the revised test result, MCI will resume in-class learning Wednesday, November 18th. Dorm students are welcome to return to campus beginning Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm

The statement stressed the school remains committed to being vigilant in reducing the spread of coronavirus in the community, with the health and safety of staff and students a high priority.
