A number of thefts were reported in this week's Winkler Police Report.

Several people reported having keys and/or wallets taken from their vehicles at night. One in particular, on 8th Street South, reported their house had also been spray painted.

On Oct 25th, police responded to a report from a female, who was not home at the time, regarding a male in her apartment. When police arrived on the scene, they saw a male, known to police, near the building. He was arrested on two outstanding warrants and for Breaching an Undertaking.

Also noted in the report - two people fell prey to two different kinds of online scams last week.

On Oct 25th, police received a report of a person who had replied to an online job posting for a Work from Home Data Entry Clerk. The victim transferred a sum of money from the potential employer. Once received, the money was to be converted into bitcoin and sent back to the potential employer to purchase office supplies. The trusting individual followed the instructions, but upon checking their bank account, realized the money from the e-transfer was not available and the withdrawal was made from their own funds. Police encourage anyone responding to online ads to use caution when being asked to send funds.

A couple of days later, officers received a report from a male who send nude photos of himself to a female he was chatting with online. After the picture was sent, he was asked for money or the scammer would send the picture to all of his friends. He did send some money but the scammer demanded more. The complainant was advised to stop sending money and refrain from communicating with the person.

The same day, on Oct 27th, Winkler Police responded to a call where a male received a head injury after being assaulted by a male with a garden rake.  The injured male was taken to BTHC by paramedics. He gave the name of the suspect to the police, as they were known to each other. Officers then arrested a 63-year-old male from Carman. The accused was released on an Undertaking to appear in court in February of 2023.

Two people were arrested on October 29th, after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Main St and Muirham Avenue revealed the driver of one vehicle had a suspended license. Police also found a small amount of cocaine in that driver's wallet, leading to a canine search of the vehicle. PSD Juno, who was on the scene, located 8 grams of cocaine, which was seized. As a result, a 20-year-old male from the RM of Brokenhead and a 19-year-old female from Winnipeg were arrested for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine.
