Officials with the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre continue to hammer out a comprehensive feasibility study and business plan for a new stand-alone facility.

The plan is to include the museum in an over-arcing tourism and development strategy commissioned by the City of Morden for the Lake Minnewasta area. Originally, the hope was to have details finalized sooner but some engineering details surrounding the lake needed to be developed first, according to CFDC executive director, Adolfo Cuetara.

"We are working with the City of Morden, with Sputnik Architecture and the Province. Everything is looking good, I think we are in the right moment to move forward with this idea," added Cuetara who expects to reveal some details by late spring/early summer. That will be followed by a fundraising campaign to help pay for the project.

If all goes ahead, Cuetara says this will be a neat project for the area.

"Lake Minnewasta is a very special place for many reasons, I mean you don't have any similar park or recreation area within a hundred kilometres of Winnipeg," he said. "With this new facility and all of the things that the City wants to do (in the area) it's going to be a whole hub of activity. It's going to be great."

Meantime, to help celebrate the CFDC'S 50th anniversary, officials publicly launched the museum's new official vehicle.

According to a news release, purchase of the 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 was made possible thanks to the help of generous sponsors, Provincial and Federal Governments, and an effective financial management plan.
