The province made an announcement today about increased funding toward its continued fight against methamphetamines.

"Today, we are committing to investing $180,000 to support a province-wide and coordinated campaign led by Crime Stoppers to help identify and stop illicit drug sellers," says Justice Minister Cliff Cullen.

He notes they are partnering with Crime Stoppers to enhance Manitoba safety. Cullen notes they're asking you to help their fight against illicit drugs and report illicit drug sales.

"It's clearly highlighting the positive role the Tip Line has served and, again, engaging Manitobans in this Tip Line," continues Cullen. "Additionally, the three Crime Stoppers organizations have jointly developed a multi-media campaign to report information about illicit drugs, whether dealing or trafficking."

Cullen adds the funding will expand cash awards to Manitobans who report these situations. He says the success of Crime Stoppers approach and capacity will see this additional effort ramp up that success. Cullen notes the money comes from the federal proceeds of crime fund which is forfeited from federally prosecuted criminal code offences.
