The Miller Aces will play a pair of games Friday at Bell MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg and the Zone 4 High School Hockey League champions are hoping to add one more on Saturday and another on Monday before their already memorable season comes to an end.

The Aces face the St. Paul's Crusaders at 11 a.m. and then meet the Transcona Titans at 3 p.m. in the round robin of the 2018 Provincial AAAA High School Hockey Championship.

Miller forward Colton Harder, who led the league in scoring with 58 goals and 101 points in 24 regular season games and was also named the Most Valuable Player, says he's looking forward to playing in the Provincials after the Aces captured their first Zone 4 championship banner in 32 years last Thursday.

"It's pretty special for us. It's been quite a while since Miller has been represented in a hockey provincials. I think we're still a little bit excited about that championship but at the same time we're all ready to go back to work and show some teams what kind of a team we are."

The Winnipeg High School Hockey League champion Crusaders did not suffer a regulation loss in 24 regular season games and are the two-time defending Provincial AAAA champions.

The Aces finished in first place in Zone 4 and went undefeated in the post-season winning six straight games.

Champion vs champion.

"I don't think we have to change too much," said Miller defenseman Rory Penner after the hockey teams last practice session Thursday morning at Sunflower Gardens. "I think we played a pretty strong game in the playoffs and we'll just see how it goes in Provincials."

The Aces have to win one of their two round robin games in order to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

Miller head coach Rob Smith feels his team has a pretty good chance to do just that.

"It's a quick turnaround after the first game," said Smith. "We've done that before. The thing I like about this particular group - and has separated them from years past -  is every tournament we've played in this year, the second game of the day we've played our best hockey which isn't normal for a lot of teams especially with only a two hour break inbetween. We've got great athletes on our team, we got great leadership and great character. The guys want to go and turn some heads. I think they're kind of embracing this with a bit of a chip on their shoulder."

Only one Zone 4 team has won the AAAA championship banner in the 26 year history of the event.

The Garden Valley Zodiacs accomplished that feat in 2006 at what was then known as MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

The Miller Aces have given themselves the opportunity to be the second.
