Residents of the Carman-Dufferin Municipality will be able to escape the heat with the Carman-Dufferin pool opening.

It opened July 7 for public swimming and will close August 30. However, there will be some changes from previous years.

"The pool is at 75 people for public swims within the facility, and that's our bather load," says Recreation Coordinator Renae Wolfe. "We're recommending you go online and preregister if you're able to reserve your spot. Registration always opens the Friday before the week you want to swim."

Wolfe says you're also able to give your name and payment at the pool but may not be able to get in that day.

Swimming lessons levels 1 through 10 are also underway, except about a third of the average size, so physical distancing can still take place. Preschool and adult swim will not take place this year.

Registration for swimming lessons is still available, Wolfe says many are already full. However, you can register online up to the day before lessons if a spot is still available. There is a schedule online, and patrons can call the office with lessons beginning July 13.

Wolfe notes the delayed opening because of COVID-19 did have a slight benefit. She says with the guidelines issued by the province, and it allowed them to organize and have a new pool lining installed in June.

"We're asking patrons to come in their swim attire if possible. Our facilities are open, but we will have time slots between each booking for cleaning high touch surface areas."

She adds they're trying to get people in and out so staff can get everything cleaned and ready for the next booking so everyone can have a safe and fun time.
