As snow is melting around the region and people are enjoying the weather outside, residents in the Carman-Dufferin area will have plenty of fun activities to choose from throughout spring and summer.

One major event includes the annual end-of-summer hockey camp, which saw roughly 70 people last year.

"The RINK, which is a player development training centre out of Winnipeg, will offer our participants with the opportunity to learn new skills," says Recreation Programmer Taya O'Brien.

On April 16 there is a 6-week dog obedience class for anyone who has added a new puppy to their family.

"It is for beginner dogs, and your dog must have their first two shots and be at least four months of age to register," she says.

Slow-pitch softball will be making a comeback in May, a sport which is receiving a lot of hype in Carman as funding for new diamonds continues to roll in.

The first ever Boyne "Book it Fun Run" will be taking place on May 25. The marathon is a fundraiser for the Boyne Library Expansion Project and has the option of running a 2K, 5K, or 10K.

O'Brien says, "somebody had mentioned that a lot of people would likely go into the marathon but they don't really know how to run or don't know if they could do it. So we've teamed up with a trainer here in Carman and she's offering to teach people how to run so they can join."

This is the first time they have done something like this before, but if training sessions are well-attended and successful they will look at bringing it back in the future.
