Despite cautious optimism earlier this fall that the emergency department at the Altona Community Memorial Health Centre would resume services 12 hours a day, 7 days a week by October 31st - that will not be the case.

An update from Southern Health-Sante Sud on Friday says the Altona Community Medical Group continues to face ongoing human resource challenges affecting emergency department services at the hospital.

As a result, the ER will operate Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Southern Health-Sante Sud acknowledged the inconvenience this has on the community, noting officials endeavor to continue all efforts to reinstate a 24/7 emergency department, adding increasing and preserving the current medical staff resources remains a top priority.

Meantime, the Altona Clinic will continue to offer limited same-day appointments with health care providers Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please call 204-324-6447 to book an appointment.

Outpatient services such as lab work, minor procedures and wound care currently provided through the emergency department will continue to be scheduled as required.
