The Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks are Hockey Manitoba Provincial Senior "A" champions. Shaun Bowles had three goals and two assists as the Tiger Hills Hockey League champions downed the Ste. Anne Aces 7-3 Sunday at the East End Arena in Winnipeg in the deciding third game of the Manitoba Cup final. Brad Cole, Taylor Sanheim, Curtis Gardham and Dillin Stonehouse also scored for the C-Hawks who led 5-0 early in the second period. Tanner Harms, Brenden Walker and Keith Grondin replied for the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champions. The Aces cut Miniota/Elkhorn's lead to 5-3 after 40 minutes. Ste. Anne had a chance to cut the deficit to one but failed to score with the man advantage to start the third period. Gardham's goal 5:39 into the final frame extended the C-Hawks lead to 6-3. 


Ty Paisley scored twice and Dominik Wasik made 31 saves as the Steinbach Pistons defeated the Virden Oil Capitals 3-0 Sunday night at the T.G. Smith Centre. Davin Griffin also scored for the Pistons who lead the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's best-of-seven final for the Turnbull Cup two games to none. Wasik stopped all 59 shots he faced on the weekend. Virden netminder Eric Reid stopped 28 shots in game two. The series shifts to Tundra Oil & Gas Place for games three and four on Wednesday and Thursday.


Carberry's Carson Bjarnason made 22 saves in Canada's 4-3 victory over Slovakia at the 2023 World U18 Hockey Championship in Porrentruy, Switzerland. Porter Martone scored a second period shorthanded goal and Macklin Celebrini's third period power play marker proved to be the winner. Canada has a 2-1 record and will play its final preliminary round game Tuesday against the Czech Republic. 


The Winnipeg Jets meet the Vegas Golden Knights tonight (8:30 p.m.) at Canada Life Centre. The Golden Knights lead the NHL's best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinal two games to one. Michael Amadio scored 3:40 into double overtime to lift the Golden Knights past the Jets 5-4 on Saturday in game three. Winnipeg will be without defenseman Josh Morrissey for the remainder of the opening round series. He suffered a lower-body injury in the first period Saturday after a knee-on-knee collision with Vegas blueliner Zach Whitecloud. 


Stony Mountain's Aaron Cockerill lost in a playoff to Lucas Herbert at the DP World Tour's ISPS Handa Championship in Omitama, Japan. Both finished regulation at 15-under par. Cockerill lipped out his birdie putt on the first extra hole. Herbert drained his 12-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole. Cockerill moved from 80th to 25th in the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai Rankings with his second place finish Sunday. 


Jennifer Jones & Brent Laing recorded two solid victories on Monday over medal-hopeful teams at the 2023 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Gangneung, South Korea. The reigning Canadian mixed doubles champions from Horseshoe Valley, Ontario defeated Italy’s Stefania Constantini & Sebastiano Arman 8-4 and Australia’s Tahli Gill & Dean Hewitt 11-6. With the wins, Jones and Laing improved to 4-1 and part of a three-way tie for top spot in their 10-team round-robin pool with Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee & Harri Lill, and Scotland’s Jen Dodds & Bruce Mouat.
