The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League's best-of-seven final is going to a game five. Brenden Walker had three goals and two assists as the Ste. Anne Aces defeated the Morden Bombers 6-4 Sunday night at the Maurice Chaput Arena. Caleb Paisley, Alex Tetrault and William Cruise also scored for the Aces who cut Morden's lead in the series to three games to one. Mike Rey had a hat trick for the visitors. Tyler Peers had the other Bombers goal. Game five goes Tuesday in Morden. 


Lucas Ens scored the go-ahead goal 5:52 into the third period and Carter Dittmer added an insurance marker with 4:13 left as the Winkler Flyers won their regular season finale 6-4 over the Nighthawks in Niverville. Dalton Andrew added his 24th and 25th goals of the season while the rest went to Gavin Waltz and Mike Svenson. The Flyers, who finished in third place in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's East Division, meet the Pistons in Steinbach Friday night in game one of their best-of-seven opening round series. The three other first round matchups feature the Portage Terriers against Niverville, the Swan Valley Stampeders face the Dauphin Kings and the OCN Blizzard take on the Virden Oil Capitals. 


The Brandon Wheat Kings, who will wrap up their regular season schedule with a home-and-home against the Winnipeg Ice this weekend, were eliminated from playoff contention in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference when the Calgary Hitmen defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-3 Sunday. Owen Pederson and Zack Ostapchuk scored two goals each as the Ice beat the Prince Albert Raiders 6-1. Ben Zloty and Graham Sward also scored for the Ice. Winnipeg netminder Daniel Hauser made 29 saves and set the teams new franchise record for wins in season with 37. Wyatt Hoflin had the previous mark of 36 wins during the 2014-15 season with the Kootenay Ice.


Brandon’s Assiniboine Community College saw their reign as American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II champions come to an end Sunday in Boston. Nicole Pollis scored 2:59 into double overtime to lift Northeastern University past ACC 2-1 in the semifinals. Cougars defenseman Lacy Gaffray's power play goal at 13:30 of the third period tied the game at 1-1.


The Winnipeg Jets lost 3-0 to the Blues in St. Louis. Winnipeg native Joel Hofer made 33 saves in recording the shutout. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 14 shots in net for the Jets (39-29-3) who were coming off a 3-2 overtime win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday. Winnipeg remains four points ahead of the Calgary Flames for the second wild card in the Western Conference.


Jansen Harkins potted the tying goal with 1:51 left in the third period and Cole Maier scored the only goal of the shootout as the Manitoba Moose edged the Wolves 4-3 in Chicago. Dominic Toninato and Tyler Boland also scored in regulation for the Moose. 


Canada’s Kerri Einarson has a 3-1 record at the 2023 World Women’s Curling Championship in Sandviken, Sweden. Einarson, Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard and Briane Harris defeated Stefania Constantini of Italy 7-2 this morning and will meet Rebecca Morrison of Scotland this afternoon. The Gimli Curling Club foursome lost 8-7 to Tabitha Peterson of the United States and beat Marianne Roervik of Norway 9-6 on Sunday.
