The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders meet tonight (6 p.m.) in the 58th Labour Day Classic at Mosaic Stadium in Regina. The Bombers, who have won five games in a row, are 10-2 and will clinch a playoff spot with a victory over the Riders. Winnipeg has added defensive back Jamal Parker and fullback Konner Burtenshaw to the game day roster replacing cornerback Alden Darby, Jr. and linebacker Shayne Gauthier.


It’s day two of Winkler Flyers main camp at the Centennial Arena. There are five goaltenders, 18 defensemen and 32 forwards at camp. The Flyers first exhibition game is September 6th against the Steinbach Pistons in Winkler. The Flyers will open the 2023-24 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season Friday, September 22nd at home against the Winnipeg Blues.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and lost 5-4 to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at Newman Outdoor Field. Hidekel Gonzalez and Keith Torres homered for the Fish.


Canada will play its final second round game today against Spain at the FIBA World Cup in Indonesia. Canada, Spain, Latvia and Brazil all have 3-1 records. The top two teams in each of the four groups advance to the quarterfinals.


Canada will face Cuba in the bronze medal game Sunday afternoon at the NORCECA Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Quebec City. Dominican Republic defeated Canada 27-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20 in the semifinals Saturday at the University of Laval. Dominican Republic will take on the United States in the gold medal game. The Americans swept Cuba 25-12, 25-11, 25-16 in the other semifinal.
