Rex Letkeman scored the go-ahead goal 6:24 into the third period as the Miller Aces rallied from a 3-1 first period deficit and defeated the Morden Thunder 4-3 Wednesday night at Sunflower Gardens in Altona in game one of the Zone 4 High School Hockey League's best-of-three final. Reece Fehr, Nolan Franz and Griffin Hildebrand also scored for the Aces. Ryan Thiessen. Brooks Merasty and Corby Stemkowski replied for the Thunder. Game two goes Sunday night in Morden. It's the third series in a row the Thunder have lost game one. 


The Pembina Valley Twisters downed the St. Vital Victorias 7-4. It was the completion of a game that was suspended on December 19th due to ice issues at the St. Vital Centennial Arena. Pembina Valley was leading 3-0 after the first period. Merek Degraeve had three goals and two assists for the Twisters. Derek Wiebe added a pair of goals while singles went to Max Collet and Zander Carels. 


Three Winkler Flyers are Manitoba Junior Hockey League All-Stars. Trent Penner and Dalton Andrew are First Team All-Stars while James Richards is a Rookie Team All-Star. Niverville Nighthawks goaltender and Morden native Raiden LeGall is a Rookie Team All-Star. 


Round two of the SEMHL playoffs got underway Wednesday night. Jay Fehr scored the only goal of the game midway through the second period and Reed Peters made 45 saves in recording the shutout as the Morden Bombers blanked the Mercs 1-0 in Warren. Brenden Walker's power play goal 4:20 into overtime lifted the defending champion Ste. Anne Aces past Winkler 3-2. Jordan DePape and Tanner Harms also scored for the Aces. Remi Laurencelle and Aaron Lewadniuk replied for the visiting Royals. Those were the first games in their respective best-of-five semifinals. Both series resume Saturday night in Morden and Winkler. 


Gabby Hughes scored the go-ahead goal with 4:06 remaining as Ottawa downed New York 4-2 in the lone PWHL game. Lexie Adzija added an empty-netter with four seconds left in regulation. 


Defender Shelina Zadorsky to help Canada blank Costa Rica 3-0 on Wednesday and remain perfect at the CONCACAF W Gold Cup with three wins and the top seeding heading into the weekend quarterfinals. Jordyn Huitema also scored for Canada, which led 2-0 after having 73 per cent possession in the first half at Houston's Shell Energy Stadium.
